You've thought about volunteering. Maybe you've meant to for a while. But you don't know where to start. You don't know who needs help. And honestly, you're not sure what you'd even be good at. Here's the thing. You already have a superpower. You just might not call it that.
Save Your SeatThat's a superpower. And somewhere in Pittsburgh, an organization is short-handed on exactly that.
Community service for school. A requirement to fill. Something you have to do. Fine. But you might as well do something you actually care about. Instead of showing up somewhere random and counting the minutes, find the place that needs exactly what you're good at. You'll do better work. They'll get more out of you. And you might just find something you want to keep doing after the hours are done.
We brought Pittsburgh's helpers together at the Helpers Table. Food pantries. Recovery houses. Street outreach. Youth programs. Churches. Community centers. They're doing remarkable work. And almost every one of them said the same thing:
"We need volunteers."
Not money. Not advice. People willing to show up. That's why we're doing this.
One room. Organizations on one side, people who want to help on the other. The orgs stand up and say what they need. You stand up and say what you're good at. Then you find each other.
No applications. No waiting to hear back. No wondering if anyone saw your email. You walk out with a name, a handshake, and somewhere to be.
Come as you are. No experience necessary.
Volunteers for a food pantry. Someone to drive. Help with social media. A hand on Saturday mornings.
The one thing you'd be glad to do.
Right there in the room. Face to face.
You just have to do the one thing you're good at. Because when everyone brings their one thing, the gap closes. That's the whole idea.
Tell us who you are and what you're good at. We'll email you the details once the date is set.
